Is It True That Anastasia Myskina Will Play In The Aussie Open?

I have heard the rumor flying around that we may be seeing a little comeback from the first Russian Grand Slam champion. She had a kid and never actually retired from the sport. So did she confirm that she would try for a wild card slot? Gee, I sure hope so! And if she does do you think she’ll go far in the tourney? Do you think she could make it back in the top 10?

    no i doubt she will.. even if she comes back she will surely be exciting 2nd or 3rd round…

    and it would be cited as a tennis miracle if she sees the start of week 2..

    i do not think she has motivation to come back.. and no she will never see the top 10…. look at players like davenport and mauresmo.. they had better games then myskina and they are struggling mightly

    Yes, she will be returning to the tour in 2009. She is hoping for wild card to the Aussie Open, and I think she will get it. However, I think it would have been better for her to stay “retired.” She was never really a threat. She won the one grand slam, but hasn’t really been much of a threat for the rest of her career. 6 out of her 22 grand slam appearances she has seen the second week. She’s only been past the quarters once in those appearances, the year she won the French Open. But you never know. We will see what she’ll do.

    Myskina is still young and if she still has the passion to compete then I say more power to her. I don’t think her actual results are all that important, what’s important is that she’s on court doing what she loves and competing after having a baby. If she comes back, it will be a labor of love rather than just to win titles. To answer your question though, I doubt she’ll make it back to the top 10 because there are far too many strong youngsters out there. She doesn’t have the athleticsm or power to stay with the current crop of top players.

    Myskina made it as high as 2 in the world and definitely had some game. She was very fit and solid off the ground. Great movement. Great groundstrokes. She was also very capable of handling the kind of power that exists in the current women’s game, so that to me isn’t an issue. On any given day, she has the kind of game to knock off any of the top players, so the ability is there. If Myskina can get herself healthy and highly motivated, she is a mainstay in the top 10 and maybe even the top 5. I would love to see her play again. We need another strong Russian to challenge Ms. Sharapova and the rest of the women’s tour.

    Well she is hopeful but it is by no means a certainty that she will be able to play at the Australian open, she is a mom now and she has found a new career as a TV presenter.
